The Southern African Development Community (SADC) (the Recipient) has been allocated grant funds from the African Development Fund which are administered by the African Development Bank and executed by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat. The SADC Secretariat intends to apply the funds to eligible payments under the contract for which this Request for DEVELOPING PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION MORNITORING SYSTEM THROUGH A PROJECTS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT PORTAL.

The objective of the Project on Sustainable Financing of Regional Infrastructure and Industrial Projects in SADC region is to support sustainable financing of regional infrastructure and industrial projects in the SADC Region, thus contributing to sustainable development of the Region. As part of implementation of the Project on Sustainable Financing of Regional Infrastructure and Industrial Projects in SADC Promote and create a welcoming business environment for private investment and development.

SADC has developed an online portal of infrastructure projects. IMCW will also input priority projects on the online database and offer training to Member States on how to input data on the portal. Specific objectives:

  1. establishment of financing mechanism for regional projects including financial instruments;
  2. prioritising and developing of regional infrastructure projects;
  3. development of regional value chains in the mining sub-sectors of copper and cobalt; and
  4. capacity building in the preparation and development of infrastructure and industrial projects.
The project is expected to increase the number of priority regional infrastructure projects prepared to reach financial close; enhance the capacity of SADC Countries Foreword to prepare and implement regional infrastructure projects; and increase in value addition within SADC in copper and cobalt mining leading to an increase in its share of contribution to the regional economies and jobs. In turn this will result in enhanced infrastructure connectivity and intraregional trade in SADC region.
